The River’s Daughter is an original theatre play written by Arieb Azhar, based loosely around the characters of Shah Lateef’s 18th century classic tale, that depicts a modern day story about an indigenous community’s heroic struggle for survival in the face of climate change and forced urbanization. The River’s Daughter was a project developed by Art Langar, All4One Pakistan and Insaan Culture Club UK under the British Council Gender Ecologies Program. The play in Urdu won wide critical acclaim after its debut runs in Karachi and Hyderabad, and was followed by rehearsed readings of the script in English in the U.K.
